The Tower Beyond the Veil

Following five days of overland transit, Paradallax personnel suspended convoy operations upon reaching a region whose biological boundary displayed statistically improbable precision. Established tree cover terminated along an effectively geometric line, beyond which extended an apparently ordinary field devoid of any visible animal activity.

The transport platform was left outside the zone while a reconnaissance team continued on foot and by aerial observation.

ABU conducted an initial high-altitude survey and identified a single isolated concentration of plant growth approximately one kilometer inside the field. Environmental measurements collected during the approach produced increasingly anomalous results. Vegetation height remained exceptionally uniform, ambient temperature showed negligible variation, and no insects, birds, terrestrial fauna, or comparable biological activity were observed.

Vice President Fenn's spectral survey subsequently detected hundreds of silver-gray energetic filaments suspended throughout the area. The structures drifted through local space without corresponding particulate matter or conventional electromagnetic origin.

Chief Security Marshal Reggie independently reported a brief tactile sensation comparable to passing through a thin membrane despite environmental sensors detecting no physical obstruction.

The team proceeded to the isolated vegetation cluster under aerial overwatch from Director Cass.

At its center personnel discovered a shallow crater containing an extreme localized gravitational distortion. Initial testing was conducted using expendable food material, a projectile, and a directed energy discharge. Each object was immediately pulled toward the center of the depression with force greatly exceeding local gravity.

ABU was subsequently directed into the affected zone and became immobilized.

Fenn initiated a field-disruption procedure against the energetic convergence point.

The result was immediate.

The suspended filaments fractured outward in a broad energetic shockwave. Local gravity returned to baseline. The vegetation surrounding the crater simultaneously ceased to exist rather than collapsing, burning, or otherwise undergoing conventional destruction.

Seconds later, a previously absent tower-scale structure became visible southeast of the crater.

Paradallax considers the sequence strong evidence that the field, vegetation cluster, gravitational anomaly, and concealed structure formed components of a unified spatial masking system.

Personnel advanced toward the newly exposed facility.

Two humanoid sentries stationed at the entrance acknowledged the team in perfect synchronization and directed personnel through the open doors. Fenn identified both entities as projected or otherwise nonphysical constructs.

Upon full team entry, the doors sealed without external intervention.

An illuminated staircase activated shortly thereafter. Contact with the structure initiated uncontrolled point-to-point relocation, scattering Paradallax personnel throughout separate regions of the tower.

The facility has subsequently demonstrated architecture inconsistent with its apparent external dimensions, autonomous environmental reconstruction, interdimensional access, biological containment, remote observation capabilities, and repeated use of structured problem-solving environments.

Whether these spaces constitute security systems, experiments, behavioral evaluations, entertainment, or some combination thereof remains undetermined.

Communication and physical reunification of the expedition remain incomplete.
